The Evolution of the DG Guild and Guild Hall System

Guilds were first introduced to players in game on November 3rd, 2003. The race was on between the CSB and ROK to become the first player guild recognized in the game. Orion the Sly promptly purchased a guild creation form at a cost of 1500 P and the Clan of the Shrouded Bunnies became the first registered player guild in Trinald. Later that day, they purchased a Guild Hall Creation form for 10000 P, and set out to purchase forms for creating new rooms, writing room descriptions. These forms all required an Admin to manually process the creation and editing of room descriptions.
The Remnants of Kimald became the next guild to register itself within the game. Taking a while longer to establish their guild hall, however, since they weren't quite as active and click happy as the CSB. =) All Guild Halls were originally located west of guild hall lane in Dundee and only a member of a particular guild could access their hall. One of the neat features of early guild halls were the ability to purchase forms to create Bunny Hutches and Guild Cannons. The later made quick transportation from Dundee a habit of CSB'ers (and perhaps ROK'ers) for some time as at that point Cannons did not randomly kill characters after flinging them into the stratosphere.
Guild membership, officer, leader transfer, and other basic forms all worked like they do currently today, that is requiring the Guild Leader to sign and pass forms to those characters upon which they're to be used. The costs for forms have fluctuated over time in response to player response, rate of income in the game for active players, and the Admins' observations of guild creation and disbanding rates.
As the game continued to expand, it became increasingly burdensome on the Admins to process Guild Hall forms and quite apparent a new automated system needed to be established. After a period of discontinued processing of Guild Hall forms, Nero the Architect stopped selling Guild Hall forms altogether. And then, at the end of March 2005, Ben of Admin announced a new Guild Hall system based on points rewarded for membership and activity. These points aggregated in a pool for each guild and could be used to buy Guild Hall lots found in various locales throughout Valorn, purchase new rooms, edit descriptions, and set accessibiltiy options. Guilds with existing halls were awarded points based on approximations of their Plat investments into their old halls. Sadly the new versions of Guild Halls do not have Bunny Hutches of Guild Cannons.
